Life After Birth: Postpartum With More Than One
The first three months as a mother of newborn twins can be overwhelming if you attempt to handle it all on your own. Not only will your body be recovering from your birth experience itself, it will also be readjusting to life after multiple pregnancy, establishing lactation and regulating massive hormonal shifts. All this while tending to the needs of not one but multiple newborn babies can be taxing for any woman. The good news is that you do not have to do it all yourself. As a new mother of multiples you deserve to be honored, loved and cared for just as much as your precious new infants. The essential ingredient for a smoother postpartum period is developing a multi-faceted Postpartum Support Plan.
It is best to plan ahead and start thinking about your postpartum plan during the beginning of your third trimester. Begin by making a list of everyone you think might be willing to lend any type of help after your multiple’s birth. This would include family or close friends who could provide live-in support for a week or two all the way up to neighbors or co-workers who could bring over meals or run quick errands. Help can come from many different places in your life. Most people are honored to lend a hand in exchange for a quick peek at a beautiful set of multiple newborns.
