Your Multiple Pregnancy

Like in any pregnancy, we do not have control over every aspect of how things turn out. You could do everything right, and still have low birthweight or preterm infants, and some people who seem to do nothing right often have healthy newborns! However, by taking charge of those things over which you do have control, you can increase your chances at having a healthy pregnancy that ends with two healthy babies in your arms.

TTTS: My Experience with and Information on Chronic TTTS

I found out I was carrying twins on the same day that my twins were diagnosed with chronic Twin-to-Twin Transfusion Syndrome, on October 8 2002, almost six years ago. The internet was not the bastion of information that it is now – or if it was, I was connected only by a very slow dial-up modem, so the information I received came from phone calls with Dr. Julian De Lia and Mary Slaman-Forsythe, founder of the TTTS Foundation. It was not a promising situation. What I learned was that TTTS is rare – even some Ob/Gyns do not know of its existence – and often fatal.

One Placenta, Two Placentas, Identical, Fraternal?

There seems to be so much confusion over types of twins. Are they identical? Are they fraternal? Many parents of multiples are given incorrect information from their ultrasound technician or doctor, who often state that since their twins had separate sacs and separate placentas they are fraternal. This is not necessarily the case. Here are the different configurations of twins in the womb and a brief description of each type of twin set.
